This page is for posting "strange" things that happen, particularly with the Teer machines.  If we can get them explained and solved - great!  If not - at least you will know you were not alone!  The machines to avoid are given below.

Some people reported an error with LAPACK when using polyval on MATLAB. OIT confirmed this is a known bug with MathWorks [http://www.mathworks.com/support/bugreports/961964 Bug Report] and they are working on getting the fix installed.

When starting emacs, a strange error (or hundreds of them show up) saying:

Try The New Virtual Machines!

You should now be able to connect to Linux through the virtual machines - just type

ssh -XY netid@login-teer.oit.duke.edu

and that will take you to a Teer-like machine (for those who remember there being Linux machines in Teer) that should have no problems. This page will likely go away quite soon since the login-teer system is working.
