MATLAB LAPACK Issue

Some people reported an error with LAPACK when using polyval on MATLAB.

  • Date(s): 9/2/2014
  • Machines: Teer 4, 12, 13, 25 - but only some people, not all
  • Solution: Log in to a different machine...

MATLAB R2013a vs. R2014a

Some people type matlab & and an older version of MATLAB comes up.

  • Solution: Log in to a different machine...

evince SettingsDaemon

When starting emacs, a strange error (or hundreds of them show up) saying:

** (evince:####): WARNING **: Failed to create dbus proxy for org.gnome.SettingsDaemon: Could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.SettingsDaemon': no such name
  • Date(s): Starting two years ago, continuing on
  • Machines: All Teer
  • Solution: It still works...hit enter to get to a new command prompt but evince should be working

Xlib: extension missing

Occasionally, the error message comes up with graphical programs saying:

Xlib:  extension "RANDR" missing on display "localhost:10.0".
  • Date(s): Starting two years ago, continuing on
  • Machines: All Teer
  • Solution: The graphical programs still work...hit enter to get to a new command prompt but the graphical program should be working
