About Me
I am currently a freshman at Duke University in the Pratt School of Engineering. I am planning on majoring in Biomedical Engineering with potentially a minor in finance. I am a huge college football and basketball fanatic (Go Blue Devils!), and I love spending time with my family and friends.
Name Pronunciation
My first name, Jonathan, is pronounced how you would think it is. My last name, Gans, is pronounced with a "z" sound instead of the "s" sound at the end.
Current Courses
For the Fall Semester 2014, I am taking four classes: Chem 110, EGR 103, Math 212, and Writing 101 - The Rockumentary.
Grand Challenges for Engineering Link
Here is a article that I thought was interesting about the grand challenge to provide energy from fusion [1], William E. Parkins, Science Magazine, 10 March 2006, Accessed 26 August 2009
MATLAB Demonstrations
My favorite MATLAB Demonstration is the demonstration of Earth's Topography. It is very impressive to me to see how less than 40 lines of code can create a 3D model of the Earth and show its topography. In addition, I like how this demonstration shows the full process, as it breaks the creation of this 3D model into steps. First it shows how to create a contour plot of the Earth, then it shows how to create a 2D image plot of the Earth with the elevation data, and then finally it shows how to create the finished product of a 3D plot of Earth's Topography.
