About Me

My name is Claire Niederriter, and I am currently a freshman in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University and am planning on majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I am from Fryburg, PA (a small farm town) and have one older sister, Adrienne, who also attended Duke.

Name Pronunciation

My first name is pretty straight forward; it's one syllable and rhymes with hair, chair, or glare. However, my last name is more difficult for people to pronounce, like many German names. It is pronounced "Need-a-writer." I know the "i" comes before the "e" so you'd think it would have a long i sound, but apparently my family doesn't follow common pronunciation/grammar rules so it has a long e sound.

My Interests

I love sports and anything active or outdoors. I have played basketball since fourth grade and am continuing to do so on Duke's club team. Not only do I like to play sports, but I also enjoy watching them, especially basketball. In addition, I love spending time with my family and friends, whom I'm very close with.

MATLAB Demonstration

I like the "Viewing a Penny" MATLAB demonstration best. I think it's really cool how you can code a program (using just numbers, letters, and symbols) to create a colored picture/figure of an object, even in 3D. I was amazed at how detailed the figure of the penny is, and would like to see something similar done with other real-life or every day objects.
