ECE 280/Fall 2026/Test 2

From PrattWiki

This page lists the topics covered on the second test for ECE 280 Fall 2026. There are sample tests for Dr. G at Test Bank.

Test II Coverage

  1. Everything on Test 1 (especially applying convolution, manipulating singularity functions, and evaluating system causality and stability)
  2. Systems
    • Derive linear constant-coefficient difference and differential equations from block diagrams containing integral or delay blocks
    • For linear constant-coefficient discrete difference equations and continuous differential equations:
      • Calculate or derive impulse, step, and general forced responses
      • Evaluate system causality from the impulse or step response
      • Assess BIBO stability from the roots of the characteristic equation
  3. Fourier Series
    • State and recall the synthesis and analysis equations
    • Formulate summations to synthesize $ x(t) $ and integrals to analyze $ X[k] $ for periodic signals (including piecewise singularity functions)
    • Determine Fourier Series coefficients for periodic signals composed of sines and cosines
    • Calculate total average power in both the time and frequency domains using Parseval's relation
    • Apply Fourier Series pairs and operational property tables to transform signals
  4. Fourier Transform (Continuous Time only)
    • State and recall the synthesis and analysis equations
    • Formulate integrals to determine $ x(t) $ or $ X(j\omega) $ for aperiodic signals and periodic signals
    • Calculate total energy in both the time and frequency domains using Parseval's relation
    • Apply Fourier Transform pairs and operational property tables, incorporating necessary algebraic manipulations (e.g., completing the square, shifting time windows on composite functions, and polynomial reduction of improper rational expressions)
    • Compute inverse Fourier Transforms using partial fraction expansion
    • Solve for zero-state responses of stable differential equations using Fourier Transform techniques
    • Derive the transfer function, step response, and impulse response from a differential equation representing a stable system
    • Reconstruct the differential equation for a system from a transfer function, step response, or impulse response
