About Me

I am a first-year student at Duke University hoping to study Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Pratt School of Engineering. I am also involved in the Duke Symphony Orchestra, in which I play cello. My other interests include golf, backpacking, and traveling.

Name Pronunciation

Although on legal records I am "Thomas Romano", almost all people call me "Tommy Romano". My first name is pronounced normally ("TOM-mee") like Tommy Bahama, and my last name is pronounced "Roe-MON-oh", just like the cheese.

MATLAB Demonstrations

After watching MATLAB's provided demonstrations, my favorite has to be 'Earth's Topography'. Earlier in the other demonstrations, it discussed plotting in 3D and using surface plots. This grabbed my interest because I am taking multivariable calculus this year, and so plotting mesh plots and contour lines is very connected to my current math studies. However, the demonstration about plotting Earth's topography took the basic plotting tools and applied it to a rather technical subject. This demonstration really showed the true extent of MATLAB's capabilities and its use in just about every data-driven subject.
