About Me

I am currently a student at Duke University in the Pratt School of Engineering. I grew up in a suburb north of Chicago, and I attended Lake Forest High School. My interests include basketball and soccer as well as camping and outing.

Name Pronunciation

My first name is pronounced just the same as any Connor. Phoenetically it would look like Kahn-er. My last name is pronounced the same way as the NFL coach Mike Shanahan. Phoenetically it's Shan-uh-han with the "a" being a long a as in hand or ban.

Engineering

Im officially undecided as to my major; however, I am likely going to be an ME major. I'm currently enrolled in EGR 103 and EGR 121.

Grand Challenges

State-of-the-Art Virtual Reality System Is Key to Medical Discovery, National Science Foundation, Updated 11 December 2012, Accessed 14 September 2014 (Enhance Virtual Reality)

Demonstration

My favorite demonstration was the Traveling Salesman problem. A problem like that would take a person days to figure out and he or she probably wouldn't end up at the optimal solution. The fact that matlab can take lines of code and data and turn that into a real solution still blows my mind. I also think its really awesome watching matlab try to figure out the different paths as it slowly gets closer and closer to the answer.
