Focussed Ultrasound Treatments

Focused ultrasound machines (FUS) have the potential to treat numerous diseases non-invasively. The machine utilizes a highly powerful ultrasound beam, often guided by an MRI machine that can focus a large amount of energy on small areas within the body. FUS machines are currently being used to treat uterine fibroids and Parkinson's disease, and researchers are working to treat many more diseases with this tool. This machine falls under the Engineering Grand Challenge of engineering better medicines.
