Have you heard about the Grand Challenges for Engineering? I found a stimulating article that connects "engineering better medicines" and "preventing nuclear terror."

The Pratt Pundit demonstration Mathematics: Optimization was my favorite. I was intrigued by the different command that MATLAB has built in to calculate the maximum and minimums of different functions. Commands 'optiget' and 'optiset' struck me as particularly useful.
