- I have mac and i am having trouble connecting to the Latex program to do my lab. I loaded the program X11 from my OSX disk and when i open it the screen reads: bash-3.2$, and when i try and type in the code shown on the website: "xhost +
- ssh -XY jcg24@ComputerName.oit.duke.edu" it says that xhost is not a valid command. Did I miss a step and/or what do i need to do in order to contact the Latex clusters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcg28 (talk • contribs)
- I personally have only used the terminal on windows 10.4; the bash thing seems a bit odd though. Are you on 10.4 or 10.5? DukeEgr93 22:35, 26 August 2008 (EDT)
- I also have a mac and I am using X11 to try and open up latex so I can edit my document, but I keep getting an error message that says "File /afs/acpub.duke.edu/users/1st letter/2nd letter/UserID/lab1.dvi does not exist" after I enter in "ls lab1" and then "kdvi lab1.dvi &" into X11. What and in what order do I need to type characters in order to open up Latex? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pdavy324 (talk • contribs)
- You need to be in your lab1 directory, which is inside the EGR53 directory. Once you log in, be sure to type
cd EGR53
cd lab1
then you can run emacs, LaTeX, or kdvi no the file. DukeEgr93 15:41, 29 August 2008 (EDT)
- Mine goes through all the emacs process, but then when I try to modify the content on emacs, it simply doesn't type english - it only types rectangular shapes that absolutely make no sense, and the language shift doesn't work.. i am unable to modify the content on emacs because it only projects white rectangles on the emacs screen. How can I solve the problem? Jy84 11:35, 27 August 2009 (EDT)
