Who I Am

My name is Spencer Bruno. I'm from Los Gatos, California, but I've lived in Dallas, Texas, since seventh grade.

Music Life

I have been drumming since age 2 and playing various other instruments since then. In about sixth or seventh grade I wanted to produce my own music and be a DJ. I bought some rudimentary equipment for DJing and produced my own hip-hop beats. In eighth grade, I was hired for my first DJ gig for my school. Right after that show, my business had spread word-of-mouth, and I played various small to medium-sized parties. By ninth grade, I discovered electronic music (dubstep at the time), so I worked hard to produce my own. By eleventh grade, I felt as if my productions were good enough for the industry so I released some music under the alias “Spenca.” Soon, I got in contact with the man who inspired me to try dubstep, Rusko. He began to play three of my songs live at his concerts. This connection only sprouted more connections— bass-music heavyweight Bassnectar began playing one of my tracks on his last tour. I decided that, because dubstep is such a small audience, I wanted to expand my music productions to house music. After working for about a year on this new genre, I found the email for Ash Pournouri, Avicii’s manager. I sent him my track, “Superstition,” in which I sampled Stevie Wonder. Ash enjoyed it so much that he showed Avicii; Avicii ended up debuting this track on his 6b LE7ELS podcast. Soon, more artists, such as Dan from White Panda gained contact with me and wanted to collaborate on some music. Meanwhile, in Dallas, I had been playing multiple shows every month in various local clubs as well as whole high school Homecomings and Proms. Within the last year, I've played various shows outside of Dallas, including Houston and Vancouver, to name a couple. I even got the opportunity to play the music festival "Identity," attended by over 10,000 people total throughout the day.
