About Me

My name is Max Staebler, and I am a first year engineering student in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. I'm hoping to graduate with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biochemistry if I can manage it. I was born in Berlin, Germany but lived in Sarasota, Florida for the past 12 years. I was very involved in LGBTQ activism while in high school, serving on the national youth advisory board for the The Trevor Project, the nation's leading 24/7 suicide prevention lifeline for LGBTQ youth. I was heavily involved in starting gay-affirming organizations in and around my school. I am the recipient of a 2012 Point Foundation Scholarship for my work in the LGBTQ community.

Name Pronunciation

Depending on the day, my name is pronounced MACKS STAY-BLUR. Alternatively, MACKS-AH-MILL-YUN STAY-BLUR.

Hopes and Dreams

My end goal in life is to work for the CDC's viral immunology department. My loftier goal is to cure HIV.

We'll see how that goes.

Engineering Grand Challenges

MATLAB Demonstrations

My favorite demonstration was the Loma Prieta Earthquake modeling demonstration. The seisomographic data represented in MATLAB showed me the uses that MATLAB has in engineering.
