  • What does this mean and how can you load kdvi if the following message occurs even if you really did type, (kdvi lab1.dvi &)?
-Could not open file /afs/acpub.duke.edu/users/c/j/cjt14/EGR53/lab1/lab1.dvi which has type application/x-zerosize. KDVI can only load DVI (.dvi) files.-

    • Basically, it means at come point the lab1.dvi became empty. This can happen if LaTeX doesn't work well sometimes. Just re-run LaTeX to produce a good .dvi file and go from there. DukeEgr93 17:58, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
  • When I install X-Win32 and install it, the program gives me the logo, and then a message saying "A fatal error has occurred and X-Win32 will now exit. Please open xwin.0.log for more information". In the log file, it mentions that it "Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running". I thought that if that was the case, then I could probably use the emacs command, but when I log into a computer to use that command, I get a Connection lost to X server 'localhost:10.0' error. Is there anyway I can install X-Win32 without any fatalities and fix the PuTTY error? DCS14 21:42, 1 September 2010 (EDT)
    • That's...an impressive-sounding error. If x-win isn't running, you can't get graphics on a PC. Best bet - if it's a laptop - would be to swing by The Link to see if they can help. Beyond that, I'd need to actually see the thing to help - I have time tomorrow at around 11am or 2pm - just shoot me an e-mail if either works. DukeEgr93 21:55, 1 September 2010 (EDT)
