Engineering Grand Challenge

New Method to Harvest Solar Energy from Light, Catherine Griffin, Science World Report, created 10 September 2013, accessed 11 September 2013 (Make solar energy economical)

Matlab Demonstrations

My favorite demonstration from Matlab was the "Other examples" category, because it really highlighted that Matlab is so much more than a glorified calculator - it is a fully fledged program that can do very powerful things. It can create graphical windows demonstrating math problems like the traveling salesman problem and a vibrating, bending bridge truss. In these respects, Matlab demonstrates its usefulness to engineers, not just in terms of manipulating large matrices, but also in creating visualizations that can shed new light on engineering problems, and their solutions.
