AFS Client is a software tool installed on the machines located in Room B209 - the PC lab for several Pratt courses. The client allows a user logged in with ACPUB credentials to access the contents of their OIT AFS drive from the PC. Specifically, the user's AFS folder will show up as the "P:" drive on the PC. However, to actually access the contents of the drive, you must use the AFS Client program to obtain a token for your space.
Obtaining a Token
To obtain a token and thus have access to your AFS drive from a PC:
- Log in to one of the PCs in B209 - make sure to use your acpub login and password
- Once logged in and once the computer is ready, left-click on the AFS Client icon in the bottom right tray. The icon looks like a yellow lock with a red "X" on it
- The AFS Client window should come up. Make sure you are in the Tokens tab and click Obtain New Tokens...
- In the Obtain New AFS Tokens window, the AFS Cell should already be set to acpub.duke.edu - just enter your user name and password, then click OK
- There should now be a token listed, with an expiration time, in the Tokens window. Typically, tokens last for 10 hours - if you are logged in longer than that,
get a lifebe sure to save your work at regular intervals and, sometime before the 10 hours are up, obtain a new token using the process above.
