About Me

I am a first-year student at Duke University currently enrolled in the Pratt School of Engineering. I am considering a major in ECE, but I do not want to declare until I have a firmer grasp of my options. I have a part-time internship at Duke Parking and Transportation Services, where I currently spend approximately 10 hours a week.

Interests

I play guitar and sing, and I am very interested in music, both listening and performing. My garage band in Florida played a few gigs, but most of my performing has been at St. John's UMC in the youth group where I led the worship band. I also enjoy sports although I am not an athlete, and I am planning on tenting for the Duke-UNC game during the upcoming basketball season.

Embracing Our Differences

As a member and officer of the Co-Existence club at Riverview High School I served on the steering committee of Embracing Our Differences during my senior year. This organization served to bring artists together from around the world with the goal of spreading tolerance and equality. Artists from across the glove submit graphical depictions of this theme along with quotes, and the board picks the most outstanding of these submissions to be displayed at one of several exhibits in the state of Florida. Their website Embracing Our Differences has more information and ways to get involved.

Grand Challenges

The Grand Challenges for Engineering includes the goal of providing energy from fusion. This article discusses this goal as a plausible option with our current technology: Nuclear fusion now a viable energy source, claims scientist, Roman McGreevy, The Irish Times, updated 12 August 2013, accessed 7 September 2013 (Provide energy from fusion).

MatLab Demonstrations

My favorite MatLab demonstration was "Viewing a Penny", found in the Graphics section. I found it to be the most informative and interesting demo because it delved into something most people would find mundane and analyzed it's tiny intricacies. In this way, this demo reflects the types of things that I am interested in doing as an engineer. Whereas the "Earth's Topography" demo displayed something that has been studied ad nauseum in science, there are many pennies and other like objects and systems that are small and yet diverse and deserving of further study.
