My favorite demonstration was "Loma Prieta Earthqake" in the Mathematics section. I found it extremely interesting that MATLAB can actually track and graph the acceleration, velocity, and position of an earthquake. This shows a real world application of MATLAB and gives significant purpose to the program.

About Me

My name is Shana Fielding, pronounced SHAY-nah FEELD-ing. I'm from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, am an only child, and love animals. I'm also extremely excited to be here at Duke University.

Hobbies

At home, I enjoy playing piano. I also do Circus Arts, including flying trapeze and silks, which sounds a little strange but is actually a ton of fun.

Future Plans

I'm currently planning on becoming a BME major at Pratt School of Engineering, as well as pursuing a Pre-Vet track. I hope to study abroad at some point during my time at Duke University and also participate in Duke Engage.

Current Courses

I'm enrolled in four courses for the Fall 2012 semester:

  • EGR103
  • Chem110
  • Math212
  • Writing101

Grand Challenges for Engineering Article

I found the following article interesting and actually very sad, and I definitely understand the need for a major engineering development to solve the problem of clean water for drinking and sanitation. [1], BBC News, updated 17 July 2008, accessed 27 August 2012 (Grand Challenge)

MATLAB Demonstration

My favorite demonstration was "Loma Prieta Earthqake" in the Mathematics section. I found it extremely interesting that MATLAB can actually track and graph the acceleration, velocity, and position of an earthquake. This shows a real world application of MATLAB and gives significant purpose to the program.
