About Me
I'm Melina Smith, an undergraduate (class of 2015) in Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University, planning to major in Biomedical Engineering. I'm from Chapel Hill, NC and in my free time I like to play piano, dance, hike, ski, and travel. I'll admit that I'm a bit wary of sharing lots of personal information on the internet, so I apologize for the dryness of this page.
Name Pronunciation
Melina is pronounced like "muh-LEEN-uh", which seems to give people trouble. It's frequently mispronounced, but this doesn't really bother me--chances are I'll respond to Melinda or Melanie until you catch on. And Smith is pronounced as you normally would.
Demonstration
I know we didn't have to choose one of the assigned demos, but I did anyway. Of the assigned demos, I like the 3-D drawing one best, because it was interactive, allowed me to be a little creative, and produced a somewhat tangible product.
NAE Grand Challenges for Engineering
Biological approaches for addressing the grand challenge of providing access to clean drinking water, Mark R Riley, Charles P Gerba, and Menachem Elimelech, Journal of Biological Engineering, updated 31 March 2011, accessed 14 September 2011 (Grand Challenges)
