This page is for posting "strange" things that happen, particularly with the Teer machines.  If we can get them explained and solved - great!  If not - at least you will know you were not alone!

When starting emacs, a strange error (or hundreds of them show up) saying:

* Solution: It still works...hit enter to get to a new command prompt but evince should be working

Occasionally, the error message comes up with graphical programs saying:
 
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "localhost:10.0".

* Solution: The graphical programs still work...hit enter to get to a new command prompt but the graphical program should be working

Try The New Virtual Machines!

You should now be able to connect to Linux through the virtual machines - just type

ssh -XY netid@login-teer.oit.duke.edu

and that will take you to a Teer-like machine (for those who remember there being Linux machines in Teer) that should have no problems. This page will likely go away quite soon since the login-teer system is working.
