With this example though, it doesn't give a thought out problem with a definitive "here's the question, here's the anwer, find it" but rather gives a situation where math is a necesity in order to obtain more useful information on the earthquake. The example then uses many powerful capabilities to take what seems like very chaotic data and turn it into useful data. |

The Loma Prieta Earthquake was my favorite. Normally in most "application" problems, they are very hypothetical and not readily applicable. With this example though, it doesn't give a thought out problem with a definitive "here's the question, here's the anwer, find it" but rather gives a situation where math is a necesity in order to obtain more useful information on the earthquake. The example then uses many powerful capabilities to take what seems like very chaotic data and turn it into useful data.
